Weekend Ramblings #7

Are you ready for another Weekend Ramblings a la KJ?!

Well then... let's get ready to raaaaammmmmbbbbbllllleeeee!!!!!

This week's rambling topic is...

*Songs in Books*

So my mini laptop that I've had for years has decided that it doesn't really like me anymore. It randomly disconnects from the internet and makes trying to post on my blog a real pain in the rear end! And then all the sudden there is no sound... and I mean none! My volume controls disappeared! I tried to re-install the program and it won't let me. It constantly gives me all kinds of errors and tells me the file I'm looking for doesn't exist. Ummm... RUDE!

After dealing with this for several weeks, I decided enough was enough. It was time for a new laptop. After doing some research I finally decided on one. It was delivered on Thursday! Woop woop! And the best part (other than it being purple)?! It has a DVD player/CD burner! My first thoughts?! I am burning me a new CD this weekend! YAY!

And viola! We have a Weekend Ramblings post! ;)

I never really paid attention to songs in books until I started reading Shannon Guymon's Fircrest series. The more I read, the more I noticed all the songs. There were a lot of songs that I had never heard of before. So what do I do? Head on over to Amazon Prime and start listening to them. The more I listened, the more I loved! I even went as far as creating a Songs From Books Playlist on my account. I have been known to blast this list while cleaning, baking, writing reviews and any other time I could blast it! I kept thinking... I would LOVE to have these songs on a CD so I can listen to it whenever I'm in the car. Sadly, I didn't have anything to burn a CD on. :( But now I do! Hehe. You guys have no idea how excited I am about this!

What are some of the songs that are going to be on my CD? Well... let's see...

Arms by Christina Perri, All of Me by John Legend, Ho Hey by The Lumineers, Gone, Gone, Gone by Phillip Phillips, Fight Song by Rachel Platten, Secrets by One Republic, Everybody Talks by Neon Trees, I Bet My Life by Imagine Dragons, Stand by You by Rachel Platten, Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran, Baby, I Love Your Way by Big Mountain, Bright by Echosmith, Happy by Pharrell Williams, Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran, Marry You by Bruno Mars, Come To Me by The Goo Goo Dolls, I Won't Give Up by Jason Mraz, Kiss Me by Ed Sheeran, Let Her Go by Passenger.. and that's just a few of the treasures I have found while reading! ;)

What about you guys? Have you noticed songs in books? Have you found any favorites? If so, what are they? I want to know if I need to add more to my playlist... ;) Hehe.

So come on party people... let's rrrrraaaaammmmmbbbbbllllleeeee!! ;)

And P.S. If there are any topics that you want to ramble about send them my way!

  1. I love books in songs, but I also love it when an author creates a playlist on his/her website of songs that either inspired certain scenes or kind of a soundtrack for the book. Best I've Ever Had by Vertical Horizon was the first one I remember. I was reading The Host (Stephenie Meyer) and she had a playlist, so that song went through my head throughout. I just read If We Were a Movie by Kelly Oram and it's FULL of songs (When We Were Young by Adele reminds me of the book, but it's not on the list)! Mya O'Malley had a book come out last fall that really opened my eyes to some oldies, but goodies (Van Morrison--Have I Told You Lately, Someone Like You; The Hollies--The Air That I Breathe). I love how Jeanette Lewis has readers nominate a theme song for the couple and then you can vote on it (A Thousand Years by Christina Perri was the latest winner). So many songs... :)

    1. YAY! More songs to check out! :)

And I had no idea that some authors have actual playlists! That is awesome! I am going to have to keep an eye out for this! And I think I might be bumping up If We Were A Movie on my TBR list! I am sure I'll find lots more new songs! ;)

There is just something about having songs in books that help you remember what you were feeling during that particular part of the book.. whether you were sad, happy, swooning.. you get the picture.. ;) Hehe.

And P.S. I absolutely LOVE A Thousand Years! I totally need to add that one!

*Note to self* Check out Jeanette Lewis's website and posts more often! ;)

  3. I love playlists from authors! Shelly Crane is a new favorite author and she has introduced me to new artists.

This is one of my pet peeves too... when an author has one of their characters write a song or poem, but leaves the reader hanging. They don't share anything! This happens surprisingly quite a bit. Marcia Lynn McClure will include the poetry and songs, but so many others glaze over them. I read the Selection series by Kiera Cass and kept waiting for any wesome scene where the main character sings to the Prince, and she never does! Anyway, now I'm rambling. Pet Peeve. But I do love playlists!

    1. Shelly Crane is awesome! I love her! She does have some awesome playlists in the back of her books. I have the sudden urge to download her books and re-read my favorite parts! ;) Hehe.

I made my CD but for some reason my car doesn't like playing it. Rude! I might need to buy newer CD's. I've had these for like 4 years. Lol.

So.. I have a hard time with the characters singing the songs they write in the books. I have no clue on the tempo or anything else. Is it bad that I just skim over those songs?! Unless I know the song, I get frustrated with them! Lol.
