Y'all. This book has wrecked me for the foreseeable future. I just can't with how much I loved this book! I know I'm not finished with the series yet but this is by far my favorite! I honestly don't see any other one topping it.

Circe and Lucius will forever hold a special place in my heart. The traumatic turn their story took literally broke my heart into a million pieces. The depths of emotions this book evoked in me was palpable. So much heartache, anguish, and fear had me on the edge of my seat unable to put the book down. I found myself needing to see the light come back into their eyes, needing the love they both so desperately yearned for seep deep into their souls, needing to see them happy and whole. Their story was so heartachingly beautiful. I loved every single minute of it. If ever two people needed a happily ever after, it was Circe and Lucius.

If you haven't guessed already, I am seriously loving this series. It feels like it's been forever since a series has completely captivated me. The world Ms. Hawke has created is unique and intriguing. From beginning to end, I feel like I have been transported to wherever her beloved characters are, living life right there by their sides. I can already tell this is a series that I will be reading over and over again.

If you haven't read anything by Ms. Hawke yet, I highly recommend you give her books a try. Where in the world do I even begin with this one?! More and more information is coming in as the series progresses and it's making me not want to review at all. The problems of a Book Dragon!

Lucy and Aidan were perfectly matched. The Yin to the others Yang. They balanced each other out, were fiercely protective of each other, and were always there when they needed each other the most. Chemistry aplenty between these two!

I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous reading this one. There were twists that literally gave me anxiety because I didn't know what was going to happen when certain pieces of information were given. While they—and the other immortals at the summit—promise peace, his priority remains his people: the Elementals. If the secret he harbors is unearthed, it would forever change the landscape of supernatural society.

When a plot against the vampires is uncovered with Gideon at its center, inviting Rona to the Elemental haven simultaneously solidifies their truce while risking everything.

Rona, a vampire councilwoman, is driven by one goal: to ensure vampires survive. If she fails to convince Gideon of their benevolence, their fragile truce will shatter. Yet, if she opens herself to the smoldering desire between them, it risks reviving the predator she buried long ago.

As danger lurks upon the horizon, Gideon and Rona must resist the rising passion between them, or it could threaten everything they’ve worked for. For if they fall too deeply for one another, they’ll stumble upon the bones of the past, and be forced to choose where their loyalties lie.

My Review: 5 Stars

Gah! You guys! If I wasn't already hooked on this series from book 1, I'd definitely be hooked now! So much so that I don't even want to write a review... I just want to dive into book 3. But alas, a review is a must for this amazing piece of the story!

We pick up 3 months later at a summit for the Immortals where more characters and nations are introduced. Gideon, an Elemental, is captivated by Rona, a vampire. His past experiences clouds his judgement of all vampires, and rightfully so, but he can't help but feel drawn to her.

Rona also has a past and secrets and refuses to put herself in any situation that may lead to history repeating itself. Falling for Gideon is a big no go for her. But Fate and the heart will always triumph over stubbornness.

Y'all. I absolutely adore Rona and Gideon! These two are seriously the best! I loved watching their relationship develop and seeing them learn to open their hearts for a chance at love. These two started out as enemies, but became the others fiercest protector. Swoony doesn't even begin to describe what these two have!

I am seriously loving this series! While each book in this series features a different couple (which I LOVE), there's an on going story from beginning to end. I highly suggest reading these books in order. You don't want to miss a moment of the adventures!

Ms. Hawke is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. She's giving me what I want, when I want it, and doesn't shy away from all those swoony kisses and sweet moments I love to see in books. I'm only on book 2 and I have already one-clicked the rest of this series! Now. If I could find a way to get out of adulting so I can binge this series, life would be perfect!

And of course I can't forget my casting. I seriously love these two! That has been me whenever it comes to urban fantasy, werewolves, and vampire romance.

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across all three in one book. Y'all all my fingers and toes were crossed that this would be that book. There was chemistry aplenty between these two. Between the sass, sarcasm, witty banter, the fight for dominance, and all the swoony kisses, you can't help but root for them. I loved every single minute of it!

Intrigued and invested in this series after only one book hasn't happened to me in a while. I love when I find a new to me author that can sweep me off my feet and give me that much needed break from reality. And Ms. Hawke did just that. I found myself reading late into the night, only stopping when my kindle kept hitting me in the face, and woke up extra early because I just had to know what happened next! And it was refreshing to see them working together and watching their relationship develop without any outside interference from his meddling teammates and their wives. IYKYK.

I loved the action-packed, fast pace of this book. It kept me on the edge of my seat and had me reading late into the night. It's been awhile since a book has done that to me. I also loved seeing Sawyer again and getting a glimpse into Artemis. I'm intrigued.

Death Wish felt more like her older books and reminded me just how much I love them! There are certain books that I reread regularly and this will be one that gets added into the mix. It was good to see that most of the issues that I've had with the newer books were pretty much non-existent, which was a huge relief. I was able to immerse myself in the story and just get lost in all things Jesse and Simone.

However, there were some discrepancies. Jake Davenport is not the medic for Wolf Pack, he's the medic for Phantom. Teagan states from the very beginning that she doesn't drink coffee, only hot chocolate and tea. But later in the book she just has to have coffee strong enough to peel paint. Why are beta readers/editors/proofreaders not catching these? Another thing that bugged me was names. Either names that are being repeated throughout the series (i.e. Sophie, Martin, Coleman), or names that have changed from one book to the next. With the billions of names out there, why are so many of them being repeated across all three series?

But those issues didn't stop me from loving this book! It's so different from what Ms. Deel has been releasing lately and I love that! I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get more of this kind of writing with Sawyer's book. I didn't realize how much I've missed it until I started reading this one.

And of course I can't forget my casting. I love these two! What do you think?

Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16866693694627118740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599742805326677348.post-3701066698201288422024-01-07T13:46:00.000-08:002024-01-07T13:46:39.272-08:00Heidi Lucy Loses Her Mind by Gracie Ruth Mitchell

Synopsis:

Heidi Lucy has a secret—a big one. A scary, dangerous, ugly one.

There’s just one problem: thanks to a mysterious head wound, she can’t seem to remember what that secret is.

In order to regain her lost memories, Heidi sets out to retrace her steps—followed grudgingly by Soren, a faithful patron of her little bookshop and the less-than-thrilled recipient of the cryptic voicemail she can’t remember leaving.

But her journey gets derailed when one of Heidi’s customers drops dead in the middle of her shop, and it isn’t long before both Heidi and Soren come under suspicion. Something fishy is going on in Sunshine Springs, and if they want to find the truth, they’re going to have to hunt for it themselves.

Who killed the woman in Heidi’s bookshop? What secret has Heidi forgotten? And, maybe the most crucial question of all: Who gave Soren permission to look so good in a man bun?

My Review: 5 Stars

Have you ever picked up a book and within a very short time of reading it, you just knew it was going to be one of your favorites? Well, that's what happened to me the moment I started reading how Heidi and Soren met. Y'all this was probably one of my most favorite cute-meets ever! I literally felt all the emotions that Heidi and Soren were feeling and I just couldn't help but laugh so hard! It was just so stinkin' cute! And yes, I had to go back and reread it as soon as I finished it. Gah! It. Was. The. Best!

And things only got better from there. Heidi and Soren quickly became favorites of mine and will forever hold a special place in my heart. I can't even begin to tell you how many swoony moments these two had. And no, it wasn't just the toe curling kisses these two shared that turned me into an ooey gooey pile of deliciousness! It was more about the way Soren saw Heidi. The way he was so good to her and for her. The way he loved her. He knew just what she needed and was that person for her. Always. Their relationship was so endearing and sweet. I just couldn't get enough of it. Talk about all the little dreamy sighs. Oh! And did I mention those swoony kisses?! WOWZERS! All I can say is... salted caramel ice cream anyone?!

The mystery aspect of the book was masterfully done. My mind was going crazy right along with Heidi and Soren's trying to figure out who did it and why. Just when I thought I had it all figured out, PLOT TWIST! I finally just gave up and went with the flow. I do have to say that I was just as shocked as Heidi and Soren was when all was said and done. I love it when a book can do that to me!

I seriously loved every single thing about this book. It was so satisfying and it had every aspect that I have come to love in the books I read. It was so much more than just a romance, so much more than just a mystery, so much more than just self discovery, so much more than just a relationship. It had all of that and more tied up with most perfect bow you can imagine on your most cherished present. Ms. Mitchell has made a fan for life. I can't wait to see what she has planned next!

As for my casting, I know he was a given, but I still love these two! If you do, chances are that he’ll captivate your soul and never let you go. Take me, for instance. For the last thirteen years, I’ve heard “So This Is Love” on repeat every time I think of Simon Harrison. If this is love, it kind of sucks. Especially given that Simon only ever saw me as his friend before proceeding to marry my supposed best friend. The worst part is that I thought for once in my life someone saw me. That he saw me. But I was wrong. So wrong.

Or was I?

Simon:

Thirteen years ago, I made a colossal mistake without even knowing it when I let Jules Carmichael disappear from my life. I had no idea the woman I always thought of as my best mate could have been so much more if I’d only opened my eyes to see what was right in front of me. But now that I find myself divorced and face-to-face with the lovely creature again, she wants nothing to do with me, and it’s driving me mad. If she could only see that I’m not the daft younger man who let her slip away, I have a feeling we could have something unforgettable.

My Review: 5+ Stars!

Y'all. I can't even with this book! I. Can't. Even! Where do I begin to tell you how much I absolutely ADORED this book?! From the moment I picked it up and started reading, I instantly knew I was going to have the hardest time putting it down! The world around me ceased to exist and I was immersed in all things Jules, Simon, and Jack! I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved these three!

Jules and Simon have a bit of history together. It all started in New York when Simon forgot his wallet and Jules ended up buying him a cup of coffee. What happened next was the best 9 months of Jules' life... until dear sweet, sweet little Penelope (read in the most sarcastic voice possible) pushed her way into Simon's life and Jules became a distant memory.

But a chance meeting on the beach ten years later has Cinderella and Joan Jett battling it out in Jules' head, Simon opening his eyes to see what could have been, little Jack going on endless adventures to help Princess Jewels remember the Daft Prince, and Fate taking control of it all to make sure the long awaited happily ever after finally happens. All I can say is sit down, buckle up, and enjoy the rollercoaster ride called Forgettable in Every Way!

Gah! You guys! I NEED a THOUSAND more pages of Jules, Simon, and Jack! I never wanted this book to end! Definitely one that I will be reading over and over and over and did I mention over again?! *dreamy sigh* Absolute PERFECTION!

And it would be remise of me not to mention Calista. Y'all. I love her! She's the perfect best friend! We all need a Calista and Jules in our lives! #FriendshipGoals!

Just when I think I have found my new favorite book by Ms. Peel, she releases another one that blows me away, has me swooning like a school girl, and turning me into a big ol' pile of goo. She lives with two cats, runs a small-town bookstore by day, and has only book boyfriends to keep her warm at night. The daily hum-drum has Thea looking for a little magic in her life—literally. Magic is part of the makeup of her island hometown and when she signs up for a six week course to explore her magical potential, the new adventure has her bubbling over with anticipation. That is, until Mason Bleeping Tuttle arrives at orientation. Okay, so that’s not really her ex’s middle name, but it should be.

Mason Tuttle hasn’t stepped foot on home turf in ten years. When he’s enlisted to oversee the fall session of magical boot camp, he doesn't expect to run into his old flame, Thea, or to see so much hurt behind her not-so-discreet glances. And he knows why she’s hurt—he feels it too. Their teenage romance ended in tragedy and Mason being sent to the midwest to finish high school. Now, seeing the woman she’s become has his heart pounding like he’s seventeen again. But there’s just one problem—she’s made it clear they have no reason to get reacquainted.

Is Mason grown up and good looking? Yes. There's a lot of heartbreak and hurt that they have to wade through. Their story was so heartachingly beautiful and I loved every minute I spent with them.

If you guys haven't read any of the books set in Moonrise Cove, I highly recommend checking them out! So, imagine their surprise when I returned as the hospital’s newest ER doctor. Believe me, no one is more surprised than I am. I had vowed to never return, even if it was the last safe haven during the zombie apocalypse. But when my niece Quinn begged me to come home, I couldn’t say no. My plan is to stay out of trouble this time, and above all, avoid Quinn’s uncle Tristan—the man I love to hate and the reason I left Aspen Lake.

But trouble starts to brew when my niece gets it into her pretty head that her uncle and I need to reconcile. The devious little thing insists we deck the halls together all season long. And since I’ll do anything to make Quinn happy, I agree, believing I’m completely immune to Tristan’s charm. Except the joke’s on me. Who knew that Tristan’s biggest regret was letting me go? And the infuriating man seems willing to do everything possible to win me back. Well, it’s going to take a Christmas miracle before I ever give him a second chance. Unfortunately for my plan, our chemistry could set a blizzard on fire. Now I have a major Ex emergency on my hands.

Do I give my niece her Christmas wish, or do I let the love between Tristan and me flatline for once and for all?

My Review: 5 Stars!

Oh my heart! Y'all! I can't even with all the swooniness! I. Can't. Even! Where should I begin? I do have to warn you, this is going to be one of those gushing reviews. But you guys, I can't help it! This book had absolutely everything I want in the books I read! 😍

All the feels? ✓ Swoony? ✓ Lots of kisses? ✓ Giggled/laughed out loud? ✓ Let out all the little dreamy sighs? ✓ Big gestures? ✓ Old and new favorite characters? ✓

You guys. This book right here will have you forgetting that you're an adult and that you have things you need to get done. But how can you get anything done after starting it? If you're anything like me, you can't. You. Just. Can't. And if you're also like me, you won't care even a little bit that said things did not get done. You have to keep your priorities straight you know... books first... boring chores later. Right? Right. 😉

It didn't take me long to fall in love with all things Calista and Tristan. If ever two souls belonged together it would be these two. They may have spent the last 13 years apart, and Calista may have sworn solemn vows to stay far, far away from Tristan, but their off the charts chemistry is just too hard to ignore. She does her best to stay away and keep at least one of her said vows but the tenacious man has other plans for her. You've got to love a man in love who's not afraid to go after what he knows will make is life complete and his soul happy. *dreamy sigh* Y'all. I just can't get enough of these two! I absolutely adore them! #CouplesGoals

And of course I can NOT forget about Quinn! She is the absolute best scheming little sidekick ever. I seriously loved this girl. Her close relationship with her aunt and uncle was so sweet and will melt your heart. They would do anything and everything to make her happy. And they quickly learned she would do the same for them in return. She is #TeamCalistan all the way! 😉

Ms. Peel has done it again! She never ceases to amaze me. I am in awe of her talent. She has a way of capturing the reader and not letting them go until the very end. There's a reason why she's one of my favorite authors. I can't wait to get my hands on Jules' book. Y'all. Now is the time where I will be reminding myself on a daily basis that writing takes time and that authors have lives outside of writing. I have no doubt that the book will be more than worth the wait!

As for my casting.. y'all. I. Am. In. LOVE! *dreamy sigh* They are absolutely perfect! Having a daughter has made me picky when it comes to the women I spend time with. Not to mention dealing with the pressure of being a college football coach.

But when I spot MJ at a mutual friend’s wedding, something draws me toward her.

My friend tells me to forget about her, but how can I when she becomes Maddie’s art teacher and our paths cross again?

I ask her out, she turns me down. This book needs to come with a warning. Something like...

*WARNING*

Clear your schedule before you think about starting this book because once you pick it up, you will have the hardest time putting it down and will have zero desire to adult. I may or may not have tried to get my manager to let me leave early so I could go home and read. If you're wondering, no, it did not work. She just laughed at me. 🤪

Oh my heart! Y'all! I can't even with all the swooniness! I. Can't. Even! Where should I begin? This book right here had everything I have come to love and crave in the books I read. You guys! I could not get enough of Meadow and Sebastian. From the moment he laid eyes on her, he just knew there was something special about her and knew that he needed her in his life. Meadow had some big walls built up around her heart and I seriously loved watching Sebastian and Maddie (his daughter) work together to take them down. Y'all. Sebastian is freaking fantastic and I loved how he loved Meadow. He was all in from the very beginning and I loved watching these two get to know each other and find their HEA. It seriously made my heart smile! 😍

And I would be remise if I didn't give a shoutout to Maddie, as well as Meadow's brothers. Y'all. They had me rolling! They were the BEST side characters ever! Like... I can't even with some of the things they did! And I cannot wait to get my hands on all the brothers' books! Eeeeeeek!

This is my very first book by Ms. Conwell and, if you haven't already guessed, it won't be my last! She sucked me in from the very beginning and refused to let me go until the very end. I found myself sneaking in reading whenever I could. I seriously love it when an author can do that!

And of course, I can't forget my casting. *dreamy sigh* They're pretty perfect in my opinion. One couple's photoshoot. What could possibly go wrong?

I’m Elsie Faren and I hate love.

Err, not hate, exactly. More like I no longer believe in it. After watching my parents divorce, then dumping my deadbeat boyfriend, I realized the idea of love is a fantasy.

For four years I’ve been perfectly content to remain single and alone, but now my best friend has tricked me into doing a couple’s photoshoot with a stranger.

Unfortunately, that stranger, Jameson Beck, has somehow managed to worm his way into my life, convincing me to go on three dates with him.

I was so certain that my hardened heart would be immune to his sunshine demeanor and kind soul. Little did I know that between all my fears, our flirting, and some flying donuts, there would be a sizzling spark between us…one that would have my heart begging to be let out of its cage.

But I’ve seen the effects of broken love—and I can’t risk it—not even for Jameson.

…Right?

My Review: 5 Stars!

Oh holy swooniness with all the feels Batman! Where do I even begin?! This book was AMAZING!

I hadn't even finished reading the description before I was downloading this baby. To say I was intrigued was an understatement. A reverse grumpy/sunshine? Strangers pretending to be in love? Why not give it a shot? Y'all. I am so glad that I did!

It didn't take very long for me to be transported to Meridel, IA where I became fully immersed in all things Elsie and Jameson. These two quickly made their way into my heart and I couldn't help but love them!

My heart ached for Elsie. She had been through so much. To keep her heart from being hurt again, she built her walls up so high in hopes that no one would ever break through them. But one look at Jameson and she knew she was going to be in trouble.

Jameson... *dreamy sigh* Y'all. He will have you swooning like no other. This man knows what he wants and he wants Elsie. There is just something about her that calls to him. He has no problem tearing down those walls to see into her heart, to see her.

Gah! I couldn't get enough of these two! Their chemistry, their banter, their sizzling, swoony kisses... *dreamy sigh* They were absolutely perfect for each other!

This is my first book by Ms. Schneider and it definitely will not be my last. Her writing style is so fun and I can see her personality shining through every single word she writes. I cannot wait to get my hands on Maya's book. I have a feeling I'm going to love it just as much as I did this one.

Y'all. Make sure you read the dedication of this book. It will hit you right in the feels. Best dedication I have read in a long time. 💗

And of course I can't forget my casting... *dreamy sigh* I had so much fun picking these two out! Swoony kisses, sigh-inducing happily ever afters—she’s going to write them all.

There’s just one problem: she can’t seem to stop killing off her main characters.

After accepting that a genre change is in order, Juniper sets out to do some research. What’s the best way to carry a dead body? How exactly does one pick a lock? Juniper is going to find out—with the unwilling help of her new roommate, Aiden.

But Juniper’s plans go haywire when she stumbles across an actual, real-life dead body—and before she knows it, she and Aiden are thrust into the middle of a murder mystery that seems suspiciously tied to Juniper’s past.

Who killed the girl in the woods? Can Juniper ever get the hang of mystery writing? And, perhaps the biggest question of all: Why the heck does Aiden look so good in a tweed jacket?

My Review: 5 Stars

Book slumps are the worst. I have pretty much been in one all year. I have read countless samples but there have been very few books that have grabbed my attention this year. My brain has been screaming at me to find something different. Something that I normally wouldn't read. After expressing this to one of my favorite authors, she suggested Juniper Bean. Mystery and RomCom? Together? Definitely something I've never tried before. So I thought, what the heck! Let's do it.

Y'all. Juniper needs to be my best friend! She had me literally laughing out loud from the very beginning and had me wondering what in the world she was going to do next. The things that girl got into... I just can't! 😂 Even with a bad childhood, she was just so fun and full of life. I loved her way of thinking and how she wasn't afraid to live her life. She danced to the beat of her own drum and you just can't not love her!

Just ask Aiden. He tried. He really, really tried. But y'all. This is Juniper we're talking about here! She doesn't take no for an answer and dragged him into all her craziness. He may have balked at it but I think that, deep down inside, he loved every single minute of it. He, too, couldn't wait to see what in the world she would do next.

Juniper and Aiden were absolutely perfect for each other! They are total opposites but they totally work. There will never be a dull moment in their relationship, I can promise you that. She'll definitely keep that man on his toes. Gah! I just love these two! Y'all just need to read this book. That's all there is to it!

This is my first book by Ms. Mitchell, but it definitely won't be my last. Any author who can suck me in from the very beginning, and have me busting out laughing while reading is a definite winner in my book. I have already pre-ordered the next book in the series and can't wait to get my hands on it! Come on October! Get here already!

And of course I can't for get my casting. I saw these two from the very beginning. I didn't even have to go looking for pictures because I knew exactly which ones I wanted. I have to say, these two are pretty perfect. Now, she focuses on creating and sharing beauty and peace through gardening and landscaping. But a deadly plan is in the works in Maple Valley, and Brynn is standing in the way. When she becomes a target, one man appoints himself as her protector.

Caleb Montgomery, Fortress Security operative and Morgan County deputy, answers a late-night emergency call and prevents a kidnapping. To his shock, the victim is the woman he's falling for. Caleb races to identify the man targeting Brynn. But when he falls into a deadly trap, only Brynn can save him.

My Review: 3 Stars

Y'all. I'm not going to lie. I'm a bit disappointed after finishing this book. I see all these 5 star ratings and wish I could add one more to them, but I just can't. This is going to be a hard review to write because this book had a lot of potential.

However, after talking to one of my bookish friends, she nailed it right on the head. It just seems like a lot of copying and pasting from past books. The phrases are the same, the food is the same, they all have the same "fears" in the relationships (which are always unfounded if the MC's would just open their eyes), even the bad cop, bad cop routine with zero investigation is repeated (and is definitely getting ridiculous). Add to that the grammatical errors, unnecessary or missed information, and inconsistencies throughout the book and you can see why I'm disappointed. The alpha reader(s)/beta reader(s)/editor(s)/proofreader(s) are not doing a very good job of helping Ms. Deel's books be the best that they can be.

With all that being said, I really did like Brynn and Caleb's story. These two quickly stole my heart with all their swoony kisses and sweet moments. I loved that Brynn was independent, but actually listened to Caleb and others when they were trying to keep her safe. She didn't push back and demand to be included in whatever dangerous situation they were going into. I may or may not have been shocked when that happened. She could be stubborn, but was smart when it mattered most.

I will still continue to read Ms. Deel's books because there are SO many of them that I love and reread ALL the time. I'm holding out hope that her future books will be added to the list of all the ones of hers that I love.
Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16866693694627118740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599742805326677348.post-88802551006971970212023-06-01T19:29:00.000-07:002023-06-01T19:29:19.956-07:00Naming of the Queen by JJ Makenzie

Synopsis:

What is the cost of a name? Everything.

The princess always knew her name would come with a price, but she never knew how steep the cost would be. It’s up to her to learn who she truly is and restore the ways of the Ancestors. Yet what her heart yearns for most is to be reunited with the man she must speak her name to first—Rowan, king of Northrend.

Rowan vowed no woman would ever own the heart of the king of Northrend again. But the woman with no name captured not only his heart but his soul. And despite the crimes she’s been accused of, he’s having a hard time believing he was wrong about her. Yet with the balance of Northrend and Greatland in his hands, he has a choice to make—choose the woman he loves, or save his kingdom from going to war.

It is a dangerous game they play. I don't even know where to begin to tell you how much I utterly adored this book! It was absolutely phenomenal! Here it is, days later, and I can't stop thinking about it. It's definitely one of those books that will be staying with me for a long, long time.

But, y'all. This book needed to come with some warnings!

1. If at all possible, read it with one of your bookish friends. I can attest that you are going to want to have someone to chat with throughout this entire book.

2. Make sure you have tissues at the ready. I don't know where to begin with my review. If I'm being honest, I don't even want to leave one. Why, you ask? Because I don't want to take any chances of giving anything away. This is definitely a book that you need to experience yourself. Trust me. My advice would be to curl up in your comfy reading spot and enjoy the journey you're about to embark on.

Princess and Rowan hold a special place in my heart. Their journey is so heartachingly beautiful. There's just something about these two that make me want to hold their story close to my heart and protect it from the world. I honestly can't explain it. Their love story is just too special, too incomparable in beauty. My wish is that everyone loves them as much as I do.

Ms. Makenzie had me feeling all the feels in this book. I absolutely love when an author can literally make me feel the same way the characters are feeling. And by scheduling, I mean every aspect. So why not schedule my wedding? Do I have a groom? No. Am I dating anyone? Also no. But I have a plan. A good plan, even, to find a Mr. Right who fits all my criteria. The biggest one being he MUST not be famous. Been there, and never doing that again.

I’m just about ready to put my plan into action when my famous ex reenters the picture. Josh Keller, the hottest stand-up comedian around, otherwise known as the thorn in my side and the love of my life. With him comes a major embarrassing moment, caught on video no less. It only proves exactly how incompatible we truly are and that I made the right choice leaving him three years ago. Unfortunately, Josh doesn’t think so, and he’s doing everything in his power to prove that you can’t schedule love. Well, I’ll show him. Maybe. Possibly. Why does the dang man have to be so annoyingly charming? And how can we make it work when his famous life is way out of my comfort zone? Is there any way for us to save the date?

My Review: 5 Stars

As most of you know, I'm a sucker when it comes to second chance love stories. Add in a quirky heroine with a troubled past and I am hooked. Once I started Love Rescheduled, I had no desire to put it down and ended up staying curled up in bed reading it until the very end. I just couldn't get enough of Nat and Josh!

Oh my heart! Their journey had all the feels I have come to adore in second chance stories. My heart broke for our sweet Natalie. With a troubled upbringing, she didn't see any other choice than to push Josh away. All she wanted was for him to be happy. She thought she was doing good on her own until fate brought Josh back into her life. Now her life has been turned upside down and she doesn't know whether to run to or from Josh.

Speaking of Josh... *dreamy sigh* If ever anyone was perfect for Nat, it would be him. He loved her unconditionally and refused to give up on them without a fight. I loved that he knew just which buttons to push to help her step outside her comfort zone and own who she really is, quirks, schedules, and all.

Every introvert should have at least one extrovert best friend. But what's even better than that? TWO extrovert best friends! Tara and Jolene were the best! I adored these two and the story definitely would not have been complete without them. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll get their stories as well. I am not ready to be done with this trio! They are seriously the best!

One of my favorite things about Ms. Peel is she's not afraid to embrace the hard stuff. She has the ability to take the taboo topics of real life and write them in a way that's easy to read, all while still tugging at your heartstrings. She never fails to make me feel all the feels. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what she has in store for us next!

And of course I can't forget my casting. This one was a bit hard but I absolutely love them! What do you think?

Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16866693694627118740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599742805326677348.post-45717524444665946492023-01-06T03:00:00.003-08:002023-05-27T19:00:54.793-07:00In Darkness Forged by Kenley Davidson

Synopsis:

In a land of darkness and deadly adversaries…
He might just be the deadliest one of all.

Burdened by a debt she can never hope to repay, Aislin is sent by her cruel lord to the mysterious land of Dunmaren, where she must beg the night elves for a single favor. The shapeshifters demand a steep price, but Aislin will do anything to save her family—even travel alone into a nightmare forest filled with monsters.

Except she isn't quite alone...

Talyn's magic is as deadly as his blades, but he lives only for his chance at revenge. Betrayed and imprisoned by his night elf kin, his only hope of freedom is to serve as guide and bodyguard to a human woman foolish enough to enter the perilous depths of the Darkspring.

Talyn wants nothing to do with a weak and useless human. In Dunmaren, only the strong survive, and soft things are easily broken. But Aislin defies his expectations at every turn, and what he once believed to be weakness might just prove the key to their survival.

In the shadows beneath the earth, an unlikely bond is forged between the renegade night elf and the fiercely determined human. But few ever return from the depths, and it will take more than stubbornness and steel to defeat the enemy that awaits them at the very heart of the Darkspring.

My Review: 4 Stars

I know... I know... this is a slow burn and I don't do slow burn. But I enjoyed it. It dragged for me a little bit in the middle but then picked back up and kept me reading way past my bedtime. 4am came FAR too quickly for me. Haha.

Tal and Aislin had all the qualities I crave when it comes to reading fantasy. I loved watching their relationship develop from enemies to friends to something more. I loved their HEA but wished I could've seen a couple other things before the book ended.

I love that this is a standalone. It's hard to find them in this genre. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Even though this year was full of life changes, 2022 was still an amazing year for books! Just like last year, I laughed.. I cried.. I got so angry I wanted to throw my kindle across the room.. I let out a lot of dreamy sighs.. and I loved every minute of it! I found new authors that I absolutely adore and wait with great anticipation for their next book baby to be released! I was able to read over 160 books (the most I've ever read in a year!) and I finished BOTH of my Reading Challenges!

Before I look ahead to the New Year and new books, I thought I would pay tribute to some of these favorites that I fell in love with in 2022. I decided to put the books in alphabetical order again since there is no way I'd ever be able to rank them. I just love them all way too much!

So... without further adieu... here are my TOP 20 of 2022!

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; Only my boss. And I do NOT have a crush.

When one of THE Hawthorne brothers—known by their chiseled jawlines and their family-run farm and event center—hires me to be his virtual assistant, I do everything I can to keep him firmly in the work zone.

His grumpy demeanor helps.

His smoking hot profile picture does not.

But even if I do have a crush (a very tiny one), I can’t catch real feelings for a million different reasons.

Besides the whole business part of our relationship, I’m a single mom. I have to think about what’s best for my son, Jack. And my grumpy, divorced, humorless boss isn’t exactly giving me “ready to be a stepdad” vibes.

When Perry upgrades me from virtual to in-person assistant, I wonder if I’ve gotten him all wrong. He’s actually pretty great with Jack. And with me? Let’s just say the chemistry crackling between us might vaporize all my reasons for keeping my distance.

Trouble is, after his messy divorce, I’m not sure Perry’s ready to bet on a new relationship. But it isn’t just my heart that’s on the line. It’s Jack’s, too. And after everything we went through before my husband died, I’m not sure that’s a gamble I’m ready to take, no matter how desperate Jack is for a daddy.

My Review: 5 Stars

*WARNING* Make sure you clear your schedule before you even think about starting this book. Trust me!

My first thought when I woke up this morning was... I'm just going to read a couple of chapters and then I'll get up and get ready for the day. After a couple of chapters I thought... just a couple more chapters. A couple more chapters later I had to force myself out of bed to eat breakfast and then I went right back to reading... just a couple more chapters. Y'all. I stayed curled up in my pjs all day long telling myself just a couple more chapters until I finished the book. I was so engrossed in the book that I didn't realize until I was cooking dinner that I didn't eat anything for lunch. Oops! 🙈

From the very beginning I fell in love with all things Perry and Lila. It wasn't hard to root for them. They were easy to relate to and they just felt real to me. Their relationship had the ups and downs that come with dating a single parent. I loved how they pushed and helped each other to become better and more confident. Watching these two get their HEA turned me into a big ol' pile of goo. 🥰

And of course I can't forget little Jack! He quickly stole my heart and had me laughing at his antics. I mean how can you resist becoming his stairdad?! Gotta love a kid who knows what he wants and isn't afraid to go after it. 😉

Y'all. I may or may not have started crying at one point but then I may or may not have started swooning and letting out all kinds of little dreamy sighs. Oh who am I kidding with the may or may not's?! This book had me feeling all the dang feels! And I loved every single minute of it!

You guys know how much I love amazing side characters and this one was full of them! Perry seriously has the best family! They had me wishing I could be apart of it. Haha. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series. I have a feeling it's going to be one of my favorites that I'll be reading over and over again!

Okay. Confession time. This is my first book by Ms. Proctor and I'm sitting here trying to figure out why in the world it has taken me so long to pick up her books. Talk about being late the the party! But don't worry. This will not be the last one I read. I've already preordered the next book in this series and downloaded some of her other books. I can't wait to dive in!

And of course I can't forget my casting! I seriously love these two! What do you think?!

Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16866693694627118740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599742805326677348.post-2010871874079796312022-12-06T18:21:00.000-08:002022-12-06T18:21:57.549-08:00Doctorshipped by Savannah Scott

Synopsis:

I’m the absolute last remaining single woman in the entire town of Bordeaux.
Okay, maybe not the very last.
Just the last one with all her teeth, natural hair color, and the ability to remember where I set my keys.

I decided years ago that I’m going to remain single until my dying day.
I’ll infuse a new, hip meaning into the term “old cat lady.”
I don’t need a man.
I’ve got my bulldog, my cats and some of the best friends in the world.
My cup’s not half-full—It’s overflowing.

My man-free life is going along fine until the day I walk into my new job as a part-time tutor to the daughter of the new doctor in town. The sight of this man is making my skin tingle and my breath hitch, and something very much like butterflies are erupting in my stomach.
Butterflies!
I don’t do butterflies over a man.

My reaction doesn’t mean I need to change my stance on men. After all, Grant’s a broody, stern, cantankerous man. If I were going to start dating, it certainly wouldn’t be someone who obviously hasn’t smiled since he was forced to for school pictures.

But then his daughter walks in the room and his face lights up.
That smile. Who knew swooning was a real thing?
Still, I’m not dating. And that’s final.

My Review: 5 Stars

I was having one of those days where I didn't want to do anything except curl up and read the day away. I had no clue what I was going to read until I turned on my Kindle and saw this baby sitting there waiting for me to dive in. So dive in I did... and finished it in about 8 hours. 🙈

There's no better feeling than opening up a much anticipated book and being instantly transported to one of your favorite fictional places. A place where the world around you ceases to exist and, just for a little while, you can forget all your worries and just live in the moment with some of your favorite characters. These moments and books are ones I will always treasure.

From the very beginning I fell in love with all things Jayme, Grant and Fiona. Their meet-cute is probably one of my favorites this year. You can't help but fall in love with these three and root for them to discover their happily ever after. Their journey did have a few bumps along the way, and it took them a little while to get there, but they did. It was real, it was raw, it was beautiful, and it was definitely worth it.

Y'all. I was feeling all the feels in this one. And by all the feels, I mean ALL the feels! I was so engrossed in the book that I didn't even realize I was doing the same thing the characters were doing. I found myself getting teary-eyed, laughing out loud, giggling, and letting out all kinds of little dreamy sighs. I love when an author can make me feel like I am right there with the characters, listening to them tell me their story. It's one of my favorite things about reading!

I loved seeing and catching up with all my old friends from the previous books in this series. They made the book even better than it already was! And now the countdown begins for Brooks' book. Eeeeeek! I can't wait to see what Ms. Scott has in store for him! Just a little reminder for myself... *Writing takes time. Writing takes time. Writing takes time.*

Ms. Scott has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I don't even read the synopsis anymore. I just one-click that baby, sit back, and enjoy whatever ride she wants to take us on next! She is amazing! If you haven't read any of her books yet, I highly recommend checking them out!

As for my casting... I am loving these two! What do you think?!

Kathy Johttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16866693694627118740noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7599742805326677348.post-45606417002058975732022-11-23T15:31:00.000-08:002022-11-23T15:31:30.280-08:00Christmas with the Boy Next Door by Jess Mastorakos

Synopsis:

He's a Marine turned small-town cop, and she's the single mom next door. Can the magic of Christmas unite them even with all that stands in their way?

Marine veteran Jack Rhodes returns to Snow Hill, PA to join the local police force. It's a good gig because it means he'll be close to his sister and her growing family, but taking this job has other perks, too, like living next door to his sister's best friend.

Robin McBride is determined to give her daughter a happy, stress-free life. So even though she's had a crush on Jack since the day they met, he's a police officer now, making him off-limits. Her late husband worked for the same department and died in the line of duty. There's no way she'll put her daughter—or herself—through that again.

As they grow closer over hot cocoa and holiday traditions, Jack knows he needs a Christmas miracle to convince Robin to risk her heart. And when her past comes back to haunt her, he’ll do anything to show her he’s worth believing in.

My Review: 5 Stars

Have you ever picked up a book, started reading it, and instantly knew you were going to have the hardest time putting it down? Well, that's what happened to me with this book. The world around me ceased to exist and I was immersed in all things Jack, Robin, and Abby. I can't even begin to tell you how much I loved these three!

Jack and Robin have known each other for a few years but because of Jack's profession, Robin has done everything in her power to keep her distance from him whenever he's in town. But all that changes when he moves to Star Hill to be closer to family and ends up buying the house right next door to her. Fate has something special in store for these two and all I can say is bring on the swooning and dreamy sighs. Their journey from friends to love to happily ever after is absolutely beautiful!

And I can't forget little Abby. She is adorable! She stole my heart from the very beginning. I loved watching her relationship with Jack develop. From her first unexpected hug to pizza on a bad day to snowmen to the ball to Christmas morning. Y'all, it was so sweet! I loved that he made her such a big part of his relationship with Robin. Have I mentioned how much I love these three?

Confession. I have not read the first book in this series. 🙈 How in the world did that happen?! Yes, this one can standalone, but you better believe I'll be reading Nick and Holly's book ASAP! And I cannot wait to get my hands on Tommy's book! I was secretly hoping he'd get one! 😍

Okay. It's official. I think Ms. Mastorakos needs to start writing romantic suspense. It's hard for me to find authors who write clean, secular romantic suspense so whenever I get even the slightest taste of it from a favorite author, I instantly want more! She is a natural and had me hooked from beginning to end. I'm really hoping we get to see more books like this from her. 😊

And for my casting... *dreamy sigh* I'm in love!
