First Line Friday's #15

Ok party people! It's that time again! First Line Friday's hosted by my amazing friend Kathy over at Bookworm Nation! Are you ready?!

This week's First Line Friday is:

Elsker by S.T. Bende

Kristia Tostenson prefers Earl Grey to Grey Goose and book clubs to nightclubs. But when she transfers from her one-stoplight Oregon town to Cardiff University in Wales, she falls in love with Ull Myhr. Her new boyfriend isn’t exactly what she was expecting. His cashmere sweaters and old world charm mask a warrior who's spent an eternity fighting for his very existence. Ull is an honest-to-goodness Norse god — an immortal assassin fated to die at Ragnarok, the battle destined to destroy Asgard and Earth. On top of being marked for death, Asgardian law prohibits Ull from tying his fate to a mortal. No matter what she feels for Ull, Kristia knows she's the one thing he can never have.

With Ragnarok on the horizon and a lunatic haunting her dreams, Kristia has to find a way to convince Ull that breaking the rules is the only way to survive; that defying the order he's sworn to uphold is their only chance to be together. And when someone starts asking the wrong questions, Kristia realizes the crazy visions she's had all her life might be the key to saving their realms... even if they end up costing her her life.

FIRST LINE

"I moved faster than a salmon down a chute in bear season. It was my only option. If the giant wolf biting at my heels didn't kill me, then the tree-trunk of a snake twining between my feet was going to finish the job."

I've had my eye on this book for awhile now. I absolutely love the cover! Looking forward to reading my first book by S.T. Bende. :)

The Artist Cries Wolf by Heather Horrocks

Synopsis:

Moonchuckle Bay ... Movies ... Monsters ... Magic!

SHE’S LOOKING FOR A CHANGE — AND THE FULL MOON IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER!

Amber has been in love with Samuel for four years and she’s determined to find out if what she feels is real or not — and, if it is, to win him over. Samuel’s just come back from a tour of duty in Afghanistan when his buddy’s cute little sister shows up. Too bad his guilt won’t allow him to let her into his heart, because if she ever learned what he’d done, she wouldn’t give him the time of day. Will a puppy, parents who want to keep them apart, and a town filled with monsters scare off their romance?

My Review: 4 Stars

Moonchuckle Bay... home to movies... monsters... and magic!

Amber is on the run from a stalker and headed to Moonchuckle Bay. She not only needs to hand deliver a letter to Samuel, her deceased twin brother's best friend, but she also needs to find out once and for all if the feelings she has for Samuel are real or if it's just been a four year long crush.

Samuel is beyond surprised to see Amber waiting for him on his doorstep. But one look at her and even his guilt over her brother's death can't keep him away. Especially when he discovers that she's in need of protection. His inner wolf is screaming that she is his mate and there is no denying his wolf.

But outside forces are at work to keep these two apart. Can the connection they feel for each other be strong enough to keep them together? Or will everything prove to be too much and send Amber running again? If Samuel has anything to say about it, she will be by his side for a long, long time.

This was such a cute, light paranormal romance! It was the perfect Sunday read. I really enjoyed the setting and will definitely be heading back to Moonchuckle Bay for more!

And of course I can't forget my casting. We all know how much I love this part... ;) Hehe.

Author's Corner #4

Welcome to Author's Corner hosted by Bookworm NationKatie's Clean Book Collection and KJ's Book Nook! Once a month we will feature either a favorite author or new to us author. We will share the author's bio, one of our favorite books of theirs and a review. Each of us will be featuring a different author each month so there will also be links to each of our posts.

For this month's Author's Corner I am going to choose...

Jennifer Shirk is the award-winning author of sweet (and sometimes even funny) romances for Montlake Romance and Entangled Publishing. She won third place in the RWA 2006 NYC's Kathryn Hayes Love and Laughter Contest for her first book, THE ROLE OF A LIFETIME. Recently, her novel SUNNY DAYS FOR SAM won the 2013 Golden Quill Published Authors Contest for Best Traditional Romance.

She resides in a beach resort in NJ, so when she's not writing or working on her tan, she's taking care of her most treasured possessions: her husband, daughter, guinea pig (Rocco), puppy (Sox) and four hermit crabs.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

There are a lot of amazing books by Jennifer Shirk! It really is hard to pick just one. But I was finally able to narrow it done. I absolutely devoured this book and wanted to reread it as soon as I was finished!

Matchmaking guru Kennedy Pepperdine’s life is perfect. Perfect job. Perfect friends. Perfect boyfriend. Except...when she gets trapped in an elevator with a handsome stranger, she accidentally confesses a secret: maybe her perfect boyfriend, Justin, isn’t so perfect for her after all. But a matchmaker should be able to successfully match herself, right? Thankfully, she’ll never see the handsome stranger again. Until she heads home with Justin for the holidays and learns that the sexy stranger is none other than Justin’s older brother, Matt.

Matt Ellis is trying to be on his best behavior for his mother—it is Christmas, after all. But when he recognizes the beautiful woman from the elevator—the one he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about for months—his best behavior is being held by a thread. Matt’s always sacrificed for his family, and nothing is more important than their happiness, but the more time he spends around Kennedy, the more he wonders if her supposed "right match" might just be the wrong brother.

Delay of Game by Lucy McConnell

Synopsis:

Physical therapist Elise Smith lands her dream job with the St. George Redrocks. She loves baseball and knows each player on sight before her first day of work. With the team in turmoil after the owner hires a new manager, Elise works hard to make a good impression and follow all the rules. But there’s something about relief pitcher Blake Rygs that leaves her light headed and impairs her judgement. When they are caught kissing in the physical therapy room, Elise is placed on probation. If she can’t stay away from Blake, she could lose her job. The only problem is that Blake is everywhere and it doesn’t take long before he’s worked his way into her family’s hearts by loading groceries, crashing birthday parties, and changing flat tires. The more she learns about Blake the harder it is to stick to the “no dating” rule. Can she walk away from the career she’s always dreamed of to have the man of her dreams or will the rule be a permanent delay of game?

My Review: 4 Stars

Growing up in the Smith household, it was a given that Elise's first love would always be baseball. But when she blew out her knee her life would take a different course. Landing her dream job as one of the Physical Therapists for the St. George Redrocks was just one of the silver linings to her injury. The other? Relief pitcher Blake Rygs. ;)

The moment Blake met Elise he knew he was in trouble. There was just something about her that called to him. From that first touch she was in his head and under his skin. There was an instant connection that both of them felt. But getting caught kissing by Coach Wolfe in the PT room put a damper on their "relationship". There was a strict no dating policy and if they were caught violating the rule, Elise would lose her job.

Elise does her best to stay away from Blake. She really needs this job. She can't let her family down. But the more time she spends trying to stay away from Blake, the harder it gets. Especially when he does his best to keep himself in her life.

Blake knows that he's meant to be with Elise. There is no question about it. She is his happily ever after and he will do everything in his power to make sure they end up together. He will bide his time until he can approach coach about lifting the no dating policy. After all, he's married to the owner of the team so how is that fair?!

I absolutely loved Elise and Blake! These two were made for each other! There were definitely some swoony moments between these two... ;) And I loved that Elise's family welcomed him with open arms. It was so fun to see all of them together. And how about that Kiss of Death?! ;) You'll just have to read the book to see what I'm talking about... hehe.

I haven't read a Lucy McConnell book that I didn't like. I am loving all these series she's writing. From billionaires to baseball to Snow Valley... it gives me lots of options for reading.. ;)

And this casting... *dreamy sigh* I love it! What do you think?

The Athletic Groom by Lucy McConnell

Synopsis:

Harper Richmond inherited a locker room full of trouble upon her father’s death. She got a womanizing pitcher, a forbidden office romance, and a balance sheet in the red. As if that wasn’t enough, she needs a new manager—pronto. With her contacts exhausted, she turns to Pamela Jones for help only to realize Pamela doesn’t run an employment agency—she runs a marriage brokerage. With no other options, Harper agrees to a business marriage in hopes that Pamela can work her magic and find the man who will help her maintain her father’s legacy.

The St. George Redrocks are ripe for reorganization and Isaac Wolfe is ready to take on the challenge. He’s been married before, and didn’t particularly enjoy the experience, but for a shot at the big leagues, he’d marry a turnip. Only Harper isn’t anything like a turnip. She’s warm, inviting, smart, and treats Isaac’s son like a member of the family. The more time he spends with her, the more he realizes a year-long marriage isn’t going to be enough. But, if they can’t work out their differences when it comes to managing the team, then they’ll lose everything important before the seventh inning stretch.

My Review: 4 Stars

A baseball team. That's what Harper's father left her in his will. Is this for real? She's got no clue what to do with a baseball team! But that doesn't stop her from keeping her father's dream alive. She will do what she needs to in order to honor him. Even if it means schmoozing the team womanizer, dealing with sleazy reporters and being snubbed by those who think she doesn't belong with the Redrocks. She'll show them! Enter in Pamela Jones, BMB extraordinaire!

Jobless. That's how Isaac finds himself after doing what he knows is right for one of his baseball players. But doing what's right isn't going to get the bills paid, put food on the table or get clothes for his son Logan who is in the middle of a huge growth spurt. So what's a guy to do? Man up and take Pamela Jones up on her offer of marrying a billionaire.

Due to past relationships, both Harper and Isaac have a hard time trusting and opening up to others. But they will need to if they are going to be successful both on and off the field. They definitely have their work cut out for them but the more time they spend together, the more they realize that maybe, just maybe, Pamela knows what she's doing. ;)

Harper and Isaac are definitely one of my favorite couples in this series! I enjoyed watching their relationship develop. I found myself giggling, getting frustrated and letting out little dreamy sighs throughout the book. I absolutely adored Logan! He was such a fun addition to the story. I wish he would've been more involved though. It would have been awesome to see his and Harper's relationship develop more rather than it just suddenly appearing in the middle of a chapter like they were thick as thieves. I also would have loved an epilogue! Especially seeing Logan's reaction to his dad's and Harper's relationship lasting far beyond the contract.. ;) Oh! And I would have LOVED seeing Jackson get what was coming to him. The man deserved the absolute worst! Lol.

Another awesome read by Lucy McConnell! I am so glad that she had the idea to do this BMB series! I have loved every single one that I have read so far! Super cute and fun!

And of course... what review of mine wouldn't be complete without the casting. So what do you think? ;)
