Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend by Kate Watson

Synopsis:

It's not about the wedding, it's about the marriage...license.

Sean

When my ex cheated and begged me to take her back, I made a rash, too-public vow: the next woman I kiss will be my wife. It seemed like a good idea at the time—anything to stop being everyone’s second choice. The ultimate fallback guy.

Then the Kayla Carville walks into my bar, all bold and stunning. When she hears my ex tearing me apart, she kisses me to shut her up. And when she learns about my stupid promise, she offers me a way to save face: we’ll claim we’re engaged.

The thing is, this isn’t about some stupid vow anymore. It’s about finding the courage to stop being the backup goalie and finally go for what I really want.

If I can.

Kayla

My ex is the worst, so my dad bought me a baseball team.

Classic billionaire-dad move.

Now I’m living in a small Southern town that hates me, trying to convince everyone I’m an absolute delight, not some generic “Boss Babe.”

They’re not buying it.

Except for Sean O’Shannan, the hot hometown hockey hero and bar owner who gave me the courage to break up with my fiancé months ago. He’s the kind of guy who remembers my smoothie order, saves a seat for me at the church potluck…and proposes when he discovers I don’t meet the team’s “ownership residency requirement.”

Saying yes is easy.

The hard part?

Not falling for my husband.

My Review: 5+ Stars!

Confession time. A few months ago, I went through all the books on my bookshelves and donated the ones that just weren't me anymore to my local library. Ever since then, I've had empty bookshelves staring at me. And that just won't do. I've been on the hunt for the perfect knick knacks and the perfect colorful books to add to my dark colored ones. What does that mean? I'm definitely over here judging books by their covers. When a cover jumps out at me, I'm downloading a sample and hoping for the best. After several duds, I finally hit the jackpot.

Y'all. I don't even know where to begin telling you just how much I adored this book. From the moment Kayla and Sean laid eyes on each other for the second time, I became their biggest cheerleader. I laughed with them, cried with them, had butterflies with them, and became invested in all things them. These two had me kicking my feet, squealing like a little girl, and letting out all the little dreamy sighs that just seem to make the reading experience even better for me.

Both Kayla and Sean struggle with past feelings, manipulations, hurts, and the fear of letting themselves be vulnerable enough to love and be loved in return. Their entire story is full of: I choose you. I see you. You are enough. Big gestures. Small gestures. Fierce protectiveness. Lifting the other up. Standing by each other. Being there when they are needed the most. Their story felt real. I felt like I was right there with them in Mullet Ridge, sitting in the corner table at Fruitful Union, drinking smoothies, and listening to them tell me all about their happily ever after. And y'all. I was there for it. All. Of. It.

My first visit to Mullet Ridge was absolutely amazing! I loved getting to know the town and the people in it, even if some of them are the absolute worst. I'll definitely be visiting them again real soon. I already hear Fletch calling me and wanting me to know his story as well. Mullet Ridge might become a favorite place to visit.

I know I've read a few books by Ms. Watson, and I'm trying to figure out why in the world I haven't been reading more by her. That's definitely going to change. And I'm definitely glad I judged this book by its cover. 😉

Heritage of Blood by K.P. Haven

Synopsis:

Two people from different worlds entwined by fate.

Kate

All I want is to save enough money to chase my father’s dream and help my mom.
Fate had other plans.
A chance incident entangles my life with the dangerous Luka Morozov. I’m drawn to him—despite the dangers of his world. But what happens when he won’t let me go?

Luka

I always knew I would lead the Bratva one day—it’s in my blood. But when a deadly chance encounter leaves me dreaming of the haven of blue eyes, I can’t stay away. I’ve been conditioned all my life, growing up, that personal relationships are a weakness that can be exploited.

“The thought of not having Kate would be my true weakness—I would never be the same.”

My Review: 5 Stars

Confession. I'm fairly new to the clean dark romance and mafia romance books. I'm still trying to figure out my comfort zone. I've seen several no spice readers promoting K.P. Haven, so I thought I would give her a try.

Y'all. I had the hardest time putting this book down. I read late into the night and picked it right back up in the wee hours of the morning. I was enthralled with all things Kate and Luka. The emotional turmoil throughout their story had such a strong hold on me. I couldn't help but feel every single emotion right along with Kate and Luka. It's real, it's raw, it's gritty, but it was so heartachingly beautiful. I may or may not have cried on a few occasions while reading their story. It was everything I didn't know I needed.

Kate and Luka's relationship was quite the journey. Luka was suspicious of her from the beginning and did his best to keep her at arm's length. He'd spent his life believing that personal relationships were a weakness, never expecting Kate to challenge everything he'd been taught to believe. But little by little, the walls he'd built around himself began to crumble. What started with suspicion and distrust grew into a love neither of them could have anticipated. Seeing how fiercely they came to love each other and how willing they were to fight for one another made their story all the more powerful.

As I said earlier, this is my first book by Ms. Haven, and it definitely won't be my last. I love discovering an author whose writing draws me in and leaves me wanting more. I can't wait to read more of her books!
