Bound by Secrets by Tracey Jane Jackson

Synopsis:

Brodie Gunnach has endured a horrific childhood, along with his brothers and sister within the Cauld Ane royal family. When he meets his mate, he is alarmed to learn she is only fourteen and they cannot be bound for another eleven years. He makes a heart-wrenching decision to leave in an effort to save them both from years of pain and frustration.

Payton McFadden is infatuated with a young, handsome prince that she’s met once. After speaking with him at a party for her father, he disappears, only to return five years later with a declaration and a demand.

As the two are bombarded with secrets that could destroy not only their relationship, but their way of life, will they be able to sort out truth from fiction and overcome the obstacles before them?

Will Payton trust that Brodie is telling the truth?

My Review: 5 Stars

3rd read of Bound by Secrets and I loved it even more than the first two times!

Payton and Brodie have been favorites of mine since Bound by Blood. I have always been curious about their story and I was not disappointed!

Brodie found out that Payton was his mate when she was only 14 years old. He made the difficult decision to leave in order to save them both from years of frustration. Little did he know that by him leaving, he only made things harder.

Payton fell in love with Brodie after only meeting him one time. Payton has the gift of psychometry (she has visions). When she touches Brodie she has a vision of him speaking with Connall about finding his mate and his mate just happens to be Payton. But then he ups and leaves without another word to her. She is crushed and tries to put any thoughts of Brodie out of her mind. A few years later he starts writing her letters and, after getting her hopes up again, she is crushed when he suddenly stops.

When Brodie returns after being away for 5 years he has his work cut out for him where Payton is concerned. She is NOT having any of it! He has hurt her twice already and she is having a hard time trusting that he won't hurt her again. But things happen that bring her and Brodie closer and she starts to let her guard down.

I loved seeing Payton and Brodie's relationship grow and become stronger. You actually get to see the softer, more romantic side of Brodie. He will not only do anything and everything to protect his mate but he will do the same thing to make sure she is happy. And Payton shows that she is not this quiet, demure lady that everyone thinks she is... she can be a feisty little firecracker when she needs to be. ;)

And then we have the mystery part of the book. Wow! Talk about lots of twists and turns! Old enemies resurface and new ones come into play. Things happened that I never saw coming but it did answer a lot of questions that I had from the previous books. And of course with those answered, more came to mind. Gotta love a book that can keep you thinking and on your toes!

This series has quickly become a favorite of mine! The more I read, the more I learn and the more clues I see of what is to come! Can't wait to continue on with this series and see what happens next!

And of course my casting...

When Fireflies Sing by Christene Houston

Synopsis:

When Isabelle Atkins, pop star socialite, goes missing, no one has a clue where to find her. Her accounts go dark, her credit cards vanish, and her mother throws a fit. But Isabelle isn’t gone for good. She’s hiding out at Snowflake Falls Inn, kicking it real world style by scrubbing toilets.

With the new name of Journey Miller, she’s determined to shed her old persona and come back stronger than ever. Journey’s desperate play to get out from under her mother’s controlling thumb and back to her roots is interrupted by the arrival of bad boy country star Cody Blake.

Cody has a feeling he’s met Journey before, but he just can’t place where. Journey remembers clearly and she’s determined to keep Cody at arms length. However, she can’t deny a growing attraction when they’re forced to work together.

A rock-your-world kiss in the meadow has Journey putting aside her initial resistance. That is, until Journey’s cover is blown and Cody realizes why she looked so familiar. With so much to lose, Journey has to trust her gut and hold true to who she really wants to be … even if it means risking love.

My Review: 5 Stars!

Isabelle Atkins has had it up to here with her mother running and ruling her life. There's only so much a person can take. "Wear this... do your hair like this... date him... don't eat that..." Enough is enough! It's time to reclaim her life back! It's time for "Isabelle" to disappear for good. And time for Journey Miller to make a fresh start in the world.

And what better place for a fresh start than Snowflake Falls Inn. Her new life is not always glamorous but it IS her own. With plans already in motion, she just needs to lay low until the time is right to get back out there and show the world what she's really made of!

But fate has decided to throw a wrench into her plan in the form of Cody Blake... bad boy country star extraordinaire! And boy does he get under Journey's skin!

Cody has had a rough go the last few years and has found himself in more trouble than ever. Court appointed community service lands him at Snowflake Falls Inn where he will work side by side with Journey. Their first meeting knocks him off his feet... literally... and makes it hard for him to keep the sassy, feisty little firecracker off his mind. There is just something about her that draws him in. He's never met anyone like her before and getting to know her proves difficult when she seems to hate his guts. He definitely has his work cut out for him! But slowly both Journey and Cody let their guards down enough to realize that maybe fate knows what she's doing after all. ;)

And just when things start getting good... BAM! Evil incarnate makes an entrance threatening to ruin everything that Journey has worked hard for and her new found relationship with Cody. Will the truth send Cody running for the hills? Or will he take a leap of faith and stand by Journey's side? Is their relationship over before it could start? Or will they both get their HEA? One thing's for sure... Journey won't go down without a fight.

Oh. My. Gosh! I absolutely loved When Fireflies Sing! Seriously LOVED it! It was such a fun book! I laughed out loud on several occasions.. found myself letting out little dreamy sighs.. caught myself with a perma-grin on my face and wanted to read as fast as I could to see how things would end! But the closer I got to the end, the slower I wanted to read so that I could savor every moment I had left. I already want to read it again! It's SUPER cute and a MUST read! You can thank me later! ;o)

Ms. Houston has most definitely been added to my favorite authors list! I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next! Is her next book out yet?! ;o)

And of course I can't forget my casting! Pretty perfect if I do say so myself. What do you think?!

Bound by Fire by Tracey Jane Jackson

Synopsis:

Pepper Brooks has always dreamed of escaping her small town life and her alcoholic mother. Working double shifts at her dead-end waitressing job, she saves every penny in order to join her best friend in Scotland. Her plans are threatened, however, when she finds herself alone and in danger with no apparent way out.

Connall Gunnach is traveling to the United States to attend the wedding of his brother when he is bombarded with panic. However, the panic is not his own. He realizes his destined mate is in peril and he must find her before it’s too late. But when he does, he discovers she already has a champion and a massive chip on her shoulder…and he is a man of many secrets.

Will Connall be able to convince her to trust him and him alone?

Will Pepper be able to put aside her past hurts in order to fully embrace her destiny?

My Review: 4.5 Stars

3rd read of Bound by Fire and I loved it just as much!

Pepper is human and hasn't had the best life. Her mother is an alcoholic and doesn't do anything to help or protect Pepper. Pepper does NOT trust men for very good reasons. And the crappy part?! She has a stalker who is NOT a very nice guy! He threatens and hurts people/things that she loves and she is absolutely scared to death! While travelling to the United States for Kade and Sam's wedding, Connall is overtaken by panic and knows before meeting Pepper that she is his mate. His problem?! Getting through to Pepper and getting her to trust him!

Connall quickly figures out that he's going to have his hands full when it comes to Pepper! She is a feisty little firecracker! She is completely set in her ways and has a hard time changing them. But Connall is a very patient man and actually loves everything about her... including her stubbornness and temper. I have to say that I LOVED their fights! They had me busting out laughing! Their banter was the same way. These two just cracked me up! Hehe.

I just have to admit that I thought Dalton was a complete punk in this one! I understand that he helped Pepper when she needed him to (before she met Connall), but if he knew it was serious between Connall and Pepper then he should have backed off! I really wish someone would've knocked him out when he took it too far! He deserved a Gibbs slap at least! And I loved seeing Cole again! He was hilarious during his small part in this book. It's mean but I loved seeing him mess with Brodie! Hehe. And I know that probably sounds hypercritical but Cole does NOT take it too far like Dalton does! Lol.

The mystery in this book had me guessing and I enjoyed it. Even though the stalker is a jerk! I had actually forgotten who it was and had the "oh yeah!" moment towards the end of the book.

I also enjoyed the set up of the other books in this series. I love how a lot of the characters play main roles in each of the books and you get to see what they are like before their book. Payton and Brodie's story is next and I can't wait to re-read and actually review it this time! :)

And of course my casting...

Bound by Blood by Tracey Jane Jackson

Synopsis:

Dr. Samantha Moore is one of the youngest and most acclaimed researchers in the world. Her specialty is blood and she has been recruited by the largest pharmaceutical company in Scotland. For what purpose she cannot begin to imagine, but in an attempt to break out of her painfully shy shell, she throws caution to the wind and leaves her family and best friend behind in Savannah.

Dr. Kade Gunnach is taking a chance hiring an outsider, but he’s desperate to find out how to help his sister. He believes the key lies in her blood, but so far, no one has found the answers. When the new researcher walks into his office, he’s unprepared for his reaction to her and the life-changing ramifications her arrival brings.

They’re drawn together by a force neither is prepared for, but Kade is holding something back. Something that could scare her away. When Samantha learns his secret, will she run? Will Kade be able to live with the answers he’s been desperately searching for?

My Review: 4 Stars

I've decided it's time to reread this series and so I'll be re-posting my reviews. I enjoyed this as much and the first and second time I read it! Yes.. this is my 3rd time! Hehe. And before I go any further... no this is NOT a book about vampires! And yes... I did think that going into it the first time I read it! Hehe.

Dr. Samantha Moore is human. She is one of the most acclaimed researchers in the world and her specialty is blood. Dr. Kade Gunnach is Cauld Ane. He is so desperate to find out what is going on with his sister, Fiona, that he is willing to hire an "outsider" to help him figure it out.

Sam thinks she's going a little crazy when she first meets Kade because she can "feel" his emotions and has no clue what is going on. She is instantly attracted to him and turns to "goo" in his presence. Kade cannot believe that after all these years he has finally found his mate. He knows it's her from the first moment she walked into his office. But because she is human, he has to take it slow so he doesn't overwhelm her and make her run away.

In the midst of exploring their new relationship, there are other issues that need to be dealt with. Someone is trying to sabotage Gunnach Pharmaceuticals and put the blame on Kade and his brothers, Connall and Brodie. There are also people out to try and hurt Sam.

We also get a little set up for other books in the series. Connall, Brodie, Payton, Pepper... love them all! Can't wait to re-read and re-post my reviews for those as well! :)

And of course my casting...

When charming rake Tristan Barrett sweeps Lady Elizabeth off her feet, stealing both her heart and a kiss in a secluded garden, her brother challenges Tristan to a duel.

The only way to save her brother and Tristan from harm—not to mention preserve her reputation—is to get married. But her father refuses to allow his daughter to marry anyone but a titled lord. He demands that Elizabeth marry Tristan’s older brother, Richard, the Earl of Averston.

Now Elizabeth must give up Tristan to marry Richard, a man who loves another, a man she’ll never love.

Snippet:

“Get your hands off my sister!” a voice snarled.
Tristan snapped his head back and stepped away. Alone, Elizabeth wobbled on her feet. Her brother, Martindale, stalked into view, bristling like an angry dog.
With his hands held out, Tristan faced Martindale. “My lord, we were merely—”
“None of your lies, Barrett.”
Other voices made exclamations of delighted horror. Elizabeth faced a nightmare; most of the houseguests stared at her, including one of London’s worst gossip, Lady Einsburgh. Naturally they would assume the worst. Heat crawled up Elizabeth’s neck and burned her cheeks. She’d never live down the humiliation. Closing her eyes, she clamped her mouth shut to avoid screaming at the injustice of it all. She’d only desired a few moments alone with the man she loved. Instead, she’d been caught in an intimate embrace in a dark garden. Gossipers would spread an exaggeratedly sordid tale all over England. She’d be utterly ruined.
Immersed in his role of haughty marquis, Martindale snarled, “Consider your second, Barrett. Tomorrow you shall receive my challenge.”
Elizabeth’s heart stalled. A duel? “No, Martindale. You can’t do this.” Elizabeth’s protest died on her lips as her brother rounded on her.
“Silence! You’ve behaved like a common whore.”
Elizabeth recoiled as if he’d slapped her.
Tristan stiffened. “Hear now, that’s no way to speak to the lady. I give you my word, it was merely a kiss.”
Martindale let out a scoff. “And I should trust the word of a known rake?” He turned to Elizabeth, his eyes boring into hers. “You’ve brought disgrace upon the family.”
Tears burned Elizabeth’s eyes. Martindale was right. Only Tristan could save her from shame. She turned to him, silently pleading for rescue.
Tristan glanced at her, his expression unreadable, before returning his attention to Martindale. He lowered his voice. “Let us go inside and discuss this in private.”

“There’s nothing to discuss. You’ve compromised my sister. Choose your weapon.”

Weekend Ramblings #14

Are you ready for another Weekend Ramblings a la KJ?!

Well then... let's get ready to raaaaammmmmbbbbbllllleeeee!!!!!

This week's rambling questions are...

*What do you do when you come across content in a book that you are not comfortable with? Do you skip over it and keep reading or do you stop and move on to another book? What if the content didn't show up until you were about 75% into the book? What do you do then?*

This has happened to me a few times this week and it's rather frustrating and discouraging.

The first book was part of my 2017 reading challenge. I got about 58% into the book and finally just said.. I'm done! I do have to say that I skimmed through the book to see if my suspicions for the bad guy was correct and stumbled upon more content that I didn't really care to read about. But I found out I was right about one part but not the other. While I'm curious to see what happens, I am not curious enough to pick up the rest of the books in the series.

I only got about 5% into one of the other books I started this week before the author had a 14 year old character drop the F-bomb. That book got sent right back to Amazon. Thank you Kindle Unlimited! I didn't waste any of my money on that author. Well... maybe a couple of pennies. Lol.

The last book I ended up doing lots and lots of research on before I even started. Why? Because the previous two books were duds and the page count was 674 pages. Six. Hundred. And. Seventy. Four. Pages! That's just crazy! Needless to say an honest reviewer informed future readers that there was a lot of language including several F-bombs. Thank you Ms. Reviewer for your honesty!

If you couldn't tell the F-bomb is an absolute no go for me. I will stop reading any book, no matter how far I am into it, if I see that word. Yes, I know people use it all the time... I hear it constantly. But that doesn't mean that I have to put up with it in the books that I read.

And the sad thing about all three of the above books is that they were all in the Young Adult genre. To me that mean teenagers and it just ticks me off! While I am not a mom, I am an auntie to 16 AMAZING nieces and nephews. I would not want any of them reading any of the above books. I honestly don't understand why some of the content is needed in said books. It's really sad that some authors and/or publishers feel the need to add this content. I would love to share my passion for reading with all my nieces and nephews but it's really hard when I can't even trust that a Young Adult book is going to be clean. :(

Some of you might think I am going a bit overboard and you might be right. I am not a mom and do not have to face the challenges of raising teenagers but I would think that books should be a safe place for them to escape all the negativity that is out there. Not a place that fills their head with more negativity and bad ideas on what they could be doing as teenagers. Society is already bad enough in my opinion.

And on that note, I better stop. I could go on and on when it comes to content in books. Haha.

Now it's time to hear from you! What are your thoughts on the above questions? Inquiring minds want to know! :)
